Are you looking to further your French abilities? Do you have children in French Immersion? We offer adult beginner and intermediate classes!
Our beginner course is aimed at adults with little to no prior French experience and is intended to teach basic vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. Each lesson has a major focus including introducing yourself in French, telling the time, describing your hobbies etc. with the teacher delivering fun and engaging lessons while seeing that all the students understand and are able to pronounce their new language properly! The beginning class is a 20-hour program.
Our intermediate course is for those adults who already have some basic French experience and language skills. This course aims to help participants achieve more than basic skills, enabling them to ask for directions, order a meal, request and receive information, and debate discussion topics with the class!
We developed this course in 2012 and have had many adults learn alongside us. We were also contracted through Industry Canada to teach both the beginner and intermediate program to government employees as part of their professional development. The intermediate program is a 20-hour program.
Also, our courses are particularly great for those who have children in French immersion or other FI children in their lives! Learning French as a family is a great way to promote togetherness and encourage French speaking at home. In past classes, for those who we knew had children, we offered them special homework to involve their kids and it was very fun and successful!
Classes are small and our teachers are very friendly! We want to see all of our students succeed and we always welcome and encourage feedback so we can better serve you!
Each course runs 20 hours and classes are run either once or twice per week for 2 hours per session. Once we have at least two registrants ready to start, we can begin the class. That being said, if you have a different plan in mind for you or your group, we will do our best to accommodate!
We will work with you to determine a schedule that suits your group’s availability.
Program-Specific Questions
- What if I can’t make it to every class?
- How will I know if these are the right levels for me?
- Is there anything else I can do to help boost my learning?
- Will I be learning the right kind of French for what I need?
What if I can’t make it to every class?
Not a problem. All of the course material is broken up according to classes and you’ll be able to review the classes that you’ll miss. We also recommend you check-in with our admin to see what else you can do to catch up.
How will I know if these are the right levels for me?
We can do a formal assessment with you or an informal one over the phone. We will help you figure out what works best for you and your goals.
Is there anything else I can do to help boost my learning?
Definitely! Any extra media (music, movies, tv, podcasts, books, etc) that you take in will also help you learn and we’re happy to make recommendations. The simplest suggestion is: play with the language with your family at home – have fun with French!
Will I be learning the right kind of French for what I need?
Much like the assessments we can do with you, if we know your intended goals for your French learning then we can better support you. This might mean practising some more outside of class, taking some 1-on-1 classes, or even going a little further after you’re done your course with us. We’re always happy to provide suggestions.
