C’est L’halloween..Hey!

Every year for Halloween, my house is “that house” that gives out something other than candy. Many of our Hamilton Les Petites Pommes students know that if they visit me, they can count on that I will ask them to sing my favourite Halloween song, “C’est L’Halloween” (written by Max Maxwell from Nova Scotia!) or Justin Bieber’s “Baby” (everyone’s favourite Stratford singer lol) as loud as possible filling the street with that delightful Canadian content.

Past Halloween “treats” have included “Magical pencils”, granola bars and even a copy of that week’s edition of L’Express, a weekly French newspaper from Toronto.

Since covid, I have also introduced the element of “THE SLIDE OF DOOM!” (Or Destiny depending on if it’s a little kid, don’t want them to be too scared) which is just a big piece of downspout that I use to shoot the candy down from my porch down directly to their bags. It is very efficient so the kids don’t get all crowded on the porch! I will include a picture next week:)

Lastly, when the children approach the house, I greet them as if they are walking into a federal government building with the classic, “Hello, Bonjour” to signal to them they can communicate in either official language. You’d be surprised how many FI students are excited to use their French in this surprise context!

I hope you all have an awesome and safe Halloween tonight!
