Parent teacher interviews are upon us! This week we’ve been hearing lots of reports of them from our students and parents so I thought it would be a good time to bring out our checklists!
Below are some common topics that are covered in the first through fourth year of French learning. We’ve laid them out in a nice and easy way to help you check in with the French learner in your family and see what is missing. We recommend putting this on the fridge and checking off the boxes as they solidify the information until all the items are done. This list is also great if your child is working with a tutor, you can just hand it to them and say, “cover this list!” 🙂 Check out the grade 4 one below and then grades 1-3 underneath:
Other grade checklists:
We also made some of these reminder worksheets for our students because they pop-up on this lists so I’m relinking them here. They are a very common areas of struggle for many students from adults to kids a like, especially as the verbs start to compound in grade 4! It can become difficult to keep them all straight.
Regular Verbs:
Irregular Verbs:
- 4 irregular verbs every student should memorize: Avoir, Être, Faire and Aller
- Vouloir, Pouvoir, Devoir, Savoir
- Dire, Écrire, Lire
- Tenir, Venir, Obtenir
- Offrir, Ouvrir, Couvrir, Cueillir
- -CER and -GER Verbs
- Verbs like Mettre
- Dormir, Mentir, Partir, Sortir
Other items:
Just a reminder that while the lists were made with French Immersion students in mind, it is definitely not limited to them. Since many students across Canada have different start grades for FI for various reasons ranging from JK to grade 2 or 3, a more accurate title for this list would be a checklist for those in their fourth year of French learning in French Immersion. I’ve also used all of these sheets with our adults students. The work here isn’t glamouous but it gets the job done!
