Bonjour mes amis! It is now my third week here up north at Rosseau Lake College implementing an intensive French program for the both local and international students. Since I’ve arrived, I’ve seen a baby moose, a porcupine, the northern lights and many baby ducks! See pictures at the end of this newsletter.
While being away for the month, John and I still connect weekly through our leadership meetings. Last week, I spoke about the successes with my students and what was working and not working. John also shared with me about one of our LPP students in particular, Yusuf, who has made amazing progress over the years in our one-on-one tutoring program. Read on to see what John had to say. It’s such a special privileged to witness and celebrate the growth of all our students from the ones we teach directly in schools, to tutoring and camps!
Student Spotlight- Yusuf’s Success Story
Yusuf joined us in 2019 for individual tutoring as a grade 2 student in need of help with his reading. Like many students, he struggled with multiple languages and the details that go into learning a second (or in his case third!) language. Yusuf’s father was eager to get him the help that he needed, getting him the time and effort that he needed to grow and excel!
Over the years Yusuf has received multiple lessons per week, at times as many as three lessons per week, and gradually down to two to get him the extra time and attention to help him understand what he is learning at school and from what we were teaching him as well. As Yusuf continued to grow and strengthen his skills, support stretched to include his other subjects that were usually also in French. Having a solid plan year-by-year and goals that fit the needs of Yusuf and his family helped make a structure and way forward to his success!

Yusuf is now in grade seven and is doing very well in school (and beyond!). His confidence soars and he eagerly chases the highest of marks, setting higher and higher bars for himself. Yusuf’s lessons are now more about high achievement, helping him explain the complex thoughts and teaching him strategies that he can use to reach for those goals he sets for himself. While Yusuf doesn’t need us in the same way anymore, he and his family are keen to keep us in his corner to support his ever growing achievement. Extra shoutout to Yusuf for becoming the captain of his soccer team recently, go Yusuf! We’re so proud of your hardwork and dedication!
