Since 2009, we have prepared many individual tutoring students to complete their desired DELF exams and we are seeing this become a requirement more and more as oppose to an optional endeavour. With this new requirement, we have decided to offer classes for this in a group format beginning this October.

Starting with levels A.1.1 and A1, we will be running classes that prepare students to complete the DELF junior diploma which is awarded by the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Ability (CEFR). Like all of our programs, it is designed for French second language learners to thrive while building confidence through strong French foundations.

Who:

The classes are appropriate for students from Grades 2-8. Each student will be required to do a free assessment to make sure that it is the right fit for them.

Level A1.1 Goals:

  •     Simple Sentence Production and Comprehension: Construct and understand basic sentences in French, covering everyday topics such as introducing oneself, talking about family, and discussing likes and dislikes.
  •     Diverse Vocabulary: Develop a diverse vocabulary of essential verbs and nouns related to various topics, including animals, colours, clothes, food, and general times of day.
  •     Image Interpretation: Gain the ability to understand and extract information from posters and translate that information into structured fill-in-the-blanks exercises.
  •     Recognize and Use Negation: Identify and utilize negation in various contexts, improving overall comprehension and communication skills.
  •     Letter Writing: Create a coherent 5-sentence letter using a variety of image prompts, enhancing the student’s ability to convey basic ideas and information in written form.

Level A1 Goals:

  •     Descriptive Proficiency: Describe preferences and opinions based on 3-sentence descriptions, enabling students to engage in more complex conversations about personal preferences.
  •     Vocabulary Enrichment: Enhance vocabulary with a broader range of verbs and nouns, particularly focusing on diverse foods and everyday objects.
  •     Time Expression: Master the use of precise time expressions, including the 24-hour clock, allowing you to communicate effectively about schedules and appointments.
  •     Following Instructions: Understand written instructions presented in a step-by-step format, enabling students to follow directions for various tasks and activities.
  •     Information Comprehension: Extract key information from posters, such as dates, locations, costs, and purchasable items, improving your ability to engage with practical information.
  •     Reading Comprehension: Read and comprehend a 6-sentence written passage, answering questions to demonstrate understanding of the text.
  •     Self-Introduction: Present yourself in writing, following provided structures and categories, allowing you to provide comprehensive self-introductions.
  •     Letter Composition: Apply skills by creating a well-structured 5-sentence letter using a variety of image prompts, reinforcing the student’s ability to express ideas and experiences in writing.

Whether or not students are preparing for this test, it will be a great class for continuing to build strong foundation while also providing them with test taking strategies. If you have any questions at all, please contact us and we’d be happy to discuss! 🙂

As many of our parents have students just entering into grade 1, DELF might be an unfamiliar term so we had our awesome teacher Jackie make this nice slide show for further explanation.
