Over the past two months we have been working on building a new Les Petites Pommes website! Myself and Chris, who has been part of the Les Petites Pommes Tech team since 2009, realized we needed some extra help so we hired a parent of one of our Petites Pommes, her name is Catherine and she runs a company called Tenth Man Marketing. During this process, she was collecting data to find out which pages on our site were the most searched for and near the top of the list was a blog I had wrote a few years ago about French homophones! I did not expect that! So I thought I’d share this unexpectedly popular page!
Homophones!
French has homophones just like in English. In case you forgot, homophones are pairs of words that sound the same, but have distinctly different meanings and different spellings. Understanding homophones is an essential part of mastering language, both for vocabulary building and spelling! Some examples in English are: brake/break, cell/sell, die/dye, for/four, right/write, sole/soul, weather/whether and so on.
Below is a worksheet compiled by one of our awesome summer teachers, Olivia, who made sure all our students could use these accurately. Homophones, Check ’em out!
